Where did my baby go?

Postby Angcious » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:58 am

My Tequilo celebrated his first birthday this month and I was looking back at his baby pictures. I really can't even remember him when he was small. He's gone through so many name changes from Angel (and my bearded's name is Precious, that's how I came up with Angcious), Flicka, Tequila, Tequilo. Now we just call him Mush or Mushy Baby. He's had to deal with me learning as I go along about his care, I think the biggest thing was probably learning the importance of humidity with him. We had that scare just a month after I got him when he had gotten something stuck in his nose. There was so much blood, I thought the poor baby was going to bleed to death...that ordeal gave him the nickname of Million Dollar Baby for a while.
He was such a timid baby and then it seemed overnight, he became brave and adventurous. Now he's so gentle and sweet, such a character and a big old Mush. He's Momma's Boy and he knows it. He holds a special place in my heart and is my pride and joy. He still tickles me as much now as when I first got him. I just wanted to share some of the pics of him growing up:

I could not keep him out of my bra when I first got him lol. He eventually got too big to fit in there

I just took this pic of him this weekend. He has never been skinny but I think because of the way his body was curled in this pic, it exaggerated how "rotund" he actually is. It was so adorable though, just a second earlier, he was curled up asleep with my son, had his nose almost under my son's chin. But when I went to take the picture, he started to turn around.

Made me want to look at baby pics...
Here's one of mine as a tiny baby and now Merauke monster!
He's going to shed any second so is a bit duller than usual.

Thank you for the compliments! Aw Splashy, he was a beautiful baby and now a gorgeous adult! I think bts babies are some of the cutest babies ever.

Tequilo got to try snails for the first time ever, I ordered a few cans as part of his birthday present. I gave him a few chopped up ones to see what he thought, his eyes almost popped out of his head once he got a whiff of them lol! I put more on his dish and he was going so crazy, he kept grabbing for the dish before I even put it down, knocked the snails all off. He sure loves his food but I never saw him act like that before!

Funny, mine did not seem to care for them like I hear skinks do....but let me crack open a banana or a hard boiled egg and its mayhem! Maybe there's other types I can try besides the canned ones marketed for reptiles? I'd love to give them something different for a real treat! I'm just always afraid of salt or additives, as I myself don't eat anything out of a can.

Mine don't seem to be as crazy about eggs as I've heard. Tequilo actually turned his nose to it scrambled and raw. Yet he loved pushing a whole raw egg around. I finally cracked it open for him to eat some of it...and he totally lost interest. I think he was annoyed at me for ruining his fun with the egg! I never tried hardboiled yet, going to have to try that now. My younger one will eat scrambled but he doesn't seem to be wowed by it.
I had been looking at some of the local markets, trying to find snails or escargot but had no luck. Someone at a pet store told me she gave her skink pond snails. Aren't pond snails what puffer fish eat? So I went to some local aquarium stores and no one seems to sell them!
My neighbor made some homemade dog treats and gave some to me for my dog. The texture was just like a soft, chewy cookie. I offered a tiny piece to my skinks and they really liked it and wanted more but it was mostly peanut butter and I honestly don't even know if they're supposed to have pb or not? But I was thinking about asking for the recipe and altering it to something more suitable for them, maybe like adding berries instead of pb, because they really enjoyed that tiny taste...or maybe it was the pb that made it taste good to them?
