I am a new adult Northern owner and temporarily put him into a 4'x2'x12" cage while building a larger bioactive enclosure. Plus, this temp cage is bioactive so the substrate is thick enough to house plants. I can tell you he actually goes upside down and climbs on the screen...... I'm getting this new cage done as soon as possible!!! I'm new to this species but have built a lot of bioactive tropical cages, with waterfalls, clean up bugs, Mistking systems, the whole works.. A full glass top is going to crank up the humidity and heat CONSIDERABLY! I wanted high humidity for poison dart/tree frogs/red eyed crocodile skinks and would intentionally cover the screens with plexiglass. I live in Denver so it's dry in the winter and an enclosed top versus screen cranked up my cages by about 30-50 percent in the winter specifically. In the summer I take the plexiglass off or I'll end up with a swamp. If you're hand spraying that will be less of an issue I imagine. I left it open directly under the plant lights. Right now, in this temp cage, I'm using a ceramic heater as a basking spot since it's so close to the guy. It doesn't seem to bother him and he basks under it soaking in the heat regardless of it not putting out any light. The light is a biodude grow and glow light for the plants and an Arcadia light for UVB. I would say, as a juvenile the size would be ok but you'll definitely have to upgrade with age.
