Odd behaviors... unsure if he’s trying to brumate or mate

Postby beaniebaby12 » Tue Dec 22, 2020 6:14 pm

My three year old northern has been exhibiting some odd behaviors lately and i’m unsure of what it could mean. It is winter where I live, but he is still very active and only really sleeps when it’s night. During the day, he usually just basks and almost tries to get out of his enclosure by climbing the glass. I usually take that as a sign to take him out and let him roam around a little bit, but he’s constantly on the move when I do take him out.

On top of that, I’m not sure if dropping sperm plugs this time of year and during this season is normal, but almost every time he poops, he drops sperm plugs. He still poops, but he hasn’t been eating. He’ll eat an occasional blueberry or raspberry, but when I offer him his meal he will almost completely ignore it. He shed a few weeks ago so I don’t believe he’s going to shed, but his humidity and temperatures are always spot on.

(Of course, as soon as I start typing this out he finally starts eating, but the last time he did this, he only had a bite or two and that was it. He has maybe eaten a couple berries and a couple bites of food these past few weeks. It looks like that will be what it is this time too lol)

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I wanna say it’s just him trying to find a lady, but since this is my first time owning a skink, I want to find out if this is normal or not for this time of year. (For reference, I live in the midwest if you need weather and temperature for my area.)

Although I know he is a northern for sure, I’ve attached a picture as well :)

he's most likely breeding from your description mine is doing the same its nothing to worry about. if he stops eating just keep an eye on his weight but that is also something they do when breeding. the behaviour you explained is glass surfing ( the climbing up walls ) Bart also does it. so nothing to worry about just watch him and it should be fine.

He’s in season. Perfectly normal. Looking for love!
