New Indonesian Blue tongue Question

Postby MysticBlueTongues » Tue Aug 22, 2017 9:39 am

Hey guys so i just got my Indonesian Blue tongue yesterday and i am just wanting to know about handling. I have other species of lizards which i have had for quite a few years but am just wondering when the right time is to try and hold it since i only got him/her.
So overall i would like to know how long i should let him/her acclimatize to the new tank and when i should start holding/touching him/her.
Thanks, Also the skink is around 5 months old :)

Usually it is recommended going slow and waiting one to two weeks before trying to do any major handling. Start by just talking and offering it's food and treats. Hand feeding treats is a good way for them to build up trust. Let it get used to you. Congratulations on your new baby. Definitely if you haven't done it already read our forum care sheets and feeding charts. They definitely are an excellent resource. Welcome to the forum as well and let us know if we can help in any other way.

Hi thanks for the advise, yea i have read the caresheet multiple times haha :D I have had and still have a few other reptiles but the blue tongue is something completely different, even though i have only had Indie two days there is quite the little personality starting to show.
I will defiantly ask more questions if needed. Thanks

Sounds great. It is amazing how they all have their own personalities. Enjoy your new little one.

Just an FYI, I cant make out the substrate in the picture, but Gigas types (Indos) need very high humidity, and it is recommended that you use a substrate that promotes such. Best of luck with your new pet.

Hi splashy it is called back 2 nature and is a paper made bedding, however it was only there as i just got the skink. There is now coco brick on top with a sphagnum moss hide in the corner. She also gets sprayed twice a day with water to keep the humidity up. Thanks for the info. :)
