Anyone know what this is?

Postby MommyO1Jaya » Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:36 pm

This has been a problem for our Lil guy since we bought him. Does anyone know what it is or what causes it. It looks like a scab but it sheds off every so often. Help!?! :helpme:

Two of mine had those type things when babies but after a few sheds they disappeared entirely. They were farm bred imports so I just attributed it to possible aggression during feeding or hundreds of other causes that could happen in overcrowded transport situations. Is there any redness inside his mouth in that area? I'd just keep an eye on it. Also, at times babies bite down on things that are not food items and injure a scale or two. Ususally clears up quickly a few sheds later, but again, keep notice. I've always found it better to worry than to ignore! Best of luck with the little cutie.

The thing is he has always been housed alone. At least I know for certain that for the last year, he has been. He is a year and a half old and he had a calcium defeciency when we bought him so he has lumps and kinks. He is very loving and sweet tempered. He eats lots of veggies daily and dog or cat food every other day. We treat his water and use calcium powder. Could giving him too much calcium. I ask because he is in his second shed in the 2 months we have had him and shedding seems to irritate it worse. Also is it normal for them to shed one scale at a time? Ordo they normally shed all at once, like geckos and snakes do?

As long as all the shed comes of it doesn't really matter if it comes of in flakes or scale by scale, whats the inside of his mouth look is it red or have red bumps?
