Here's a quick picture of my pair of Berber Skinks. I got these back in Dec. from Europe. They aren't very active lizards but I like them. Hopefully I can get them to breed next season.

Re: BERBER SKINKS
Those are VERY cool Kim! I like Schnieders skinks too, but it is important to note that these are not the same thing. True Berbers are much more rare. I am keeping my fingers crossed for breeding success with these.

Re: BERBER SKINKS
Beautiful! Good luck with them - would be nice to have some CB true Berbers around. These are algeriensis, right?

Re: BERBER SKINKS
What are the major differences between these and schneideri? Is it just size?

Re: BERBER SKINKS
Size and the pattern is slightly different. Berbers have the orange markings joined together like lines and Schneiders have orange markings not connected. The girth on the males is double that of a Schneiders. Length on males is about 16 inches and females about 14 while Schneiders tend to max out at about 10 inches. Both are easy to care for. As Jeff was saying, most people do not know the difference because the dealers have intermingled the name for over a decade. Berbers stopped being imported in the late 1990's and then Schneiders started being labeled as Berbers. I'm surprised there has not been more interest with breeders in the states to try and breed them.

Re: BERBER SKINKS
Very nice Kim. I didn't realise they were bigger. I've got an article on breeding them in an old Reptilia magazine somewhere. Would you like me to see if I can find it?

Re: BERBER SKINKS
Thanks Mark, I appreciate it but Phil Tremper had sent me a copy. I also got instructions from the girl who's been breeding them for several yrs now.
