Substrate, Handling

Postby bella3 » Fri Mar 09, 2012 3:26 pm

Hi,
I know that people have different opinions on these subjects, but I just want everyone's personal opinions/experiances.
First of all, is it okay to keep a baby blue tongue skink on substrate (aspen for example) as soon as i get it, or should it be kept on papertowel for a while....and why???
Also, as for handling how long should i leave a baby BTS alone before i can start handling it?

Thanks in advance! I am getting a Bluey this summer, so just gathering all of the information i can :D

If you are treating for parasites, paper towels are recommended for this stage. It allows for easier and quick spot cleaning so to not recontaminate the skink. I dont see why aspen for a baby would pose a problem.
As for handling, it all depends on the skink and how quickly it adjusts. Most say to leave a new skink alone for a week or two to allow it to feel safe before disturbing it too much. Only going into the enclosure to spot clean, feed and water.
When life gets difficult, always remember you are being planted NOT buried!
