Northern Blue Tongue NOT Eating After Brumation

Postby ScootSkink » Tue May 14, 2024 6:20 am

Hello Everyone,

I have a 7 year old Northern Blue Tongue (that I am 99% sure is female) she has awoken from brumation in mid-late February, and has not eaten since then besides half a meal a week after she woke up and 2 live superworms about a month ago.

She is very active and looks healthy overall, she is also not losing weight. I am concerned because she has never gone this long without eating and im wondering if this is perfectly normal or if I should take her to a vet.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Can you post a picture? At that age I can probably confirm gender. I am a breeder and my males go into season right after brumation and do not eat for months. My females if ovulating do not eat either. Most of my girls don't eat much at all while gestating, but will take pinky rats/mice and raw chicken. Being your skink is 7 years old, have you observed this behavior previously?

Thank you for your reply! I am at work right now but can post a picture of her when I get home! I have not seen this behavior before she usually eats about 1-4 weeks after brumating, she is very active and acting her normal self though
