Help Northern BTS Raised scales

Postby Andrea » Sat Mar 12, 2022 3:00 pm

Hi,
I had my Northern BTS for a little over a month now and I noticed a change in behaviour since a couple of days ago. She’s been like agitated, moving around the tank more than usual, burrowing during the day (ususally she doesn’t) and today I noticed some raised scales (I’m attaching pictures). She’s been eating fine but her stool is a little runny and smelly ever since I had her. Any idea what’s going on?
Thank you!

Ok I just saw a bug on her skin so I guess she has mites..
Any clue if the “smelly poop” can be from that too? She’s 7 months and she’s eating every day, she has not lost her apetite…

Yeah mites are nasty little buggers, I’ve seen your reply on another post about frontline (amazing stuff), yes you can apply only once a week. Keep at it for another week or a bit more until you see no more mites. You don’t even need to do quarantine and aggressive cleanings unless you REALLY want to make sure they’re gone. I put mine back in their normal setups in the middle of treating with frontline.

As for the smelly poo, all skinks produce very smelly turds, sometimes the smell can be made worse depending on what you fed her last. As long as it looks normal, not too runny or too dry, no strange colours or movement etc; it’s perfectly fine.

Thank you so much!
The poop is not very runny and it smells like dog poop. The only reason I was concerned is because I read in a post someone saying that their poop shouldn’t smell at all, so that is what made me concerned… She’s eating HQ cat food, bluey buffet and eggs with veggies.
I will post what happens once I get the Frontline (in a few days). In the meantime I’ve been giving her baths with betadine and the mouthwash and fully emptied and cleaned her tank twice. It’s probably not doing much until I can apply the Frontline spray, but I feel like it might give her some relief in the meantime…
Thank you again!
