Collecting ideas for new setup!

Postby bonnibel » Thu Nov 26, 2020 3:04 pm

My halmahera blue tongue skink is due for an upgrade to his forever tank! I wanted to collect as much info as I can on products to spruce it up as much as possible, the more info the better! But here are some general questions I wanted to get a lot of opinions on!
Favorite tank? Favorite substrate mix? Any specific decor your skink likes? Any specific things I can add to entertain him more? Any shops that have bigger skink sized hides and other products you like? Any tips you can give that helped make your setup better?
I am looking for a four foot or longer enclosure, I have my eye on the 48x18x18 reptizoo one on amazon but that's really just because I can't find many other reliable options. I have a perfect misting setup (Mistking) but if you have a halmahera and a larger enclosure temp gradient always helps! My bluey doesn't do too much and I want to give him more room and as much stimulation as possible. I would love to do live plants but I am honestly really *my stars! with plants and don't wanna risk messing up and having to rebuy everything.
Pics of your setup do help too! I have looked in a lot of setup picture threads but the more the merrier! Stormy is around 24 inches, possibly longer now so I want to give him as much room as possible.

I can't answer most of your questions as my enclosures are a custom builds but one of the hides all of my skinks seem to love are drainage tubes from the hardware store.
If you have some spare plywood laying around, you can build a little hide very easily as pictured. Personally, I try to avoid buying large commercial hides due to the high cost but if you can find a cork tube, those are great too.

Thank you! I think he has enough hides for now, he has one big commercial one on his cold side and I got a huge piece of cork bark along with a larger log hide I'm hoping will fit on the small side.
