How can I tell if my bluie is drinking?

Postby Digiten » Fri Jul 03, 2020 5:49 pm

I have a young Merauke blue tongue. I've had her for about a month-ish, and purchased her from a pet store. She seems pretty healthy, she's active, likes to explore, and eats the food I give her without problem. Though, I've never ever seen her drink, and I've noticed she almost anticipates my mistings. When I pull out the little bottle and start to spray, she pokes her head out of her hide to lick the water off of the walls of her enclosure, and she's similarly eager about licking water off of my fingertips. She has a pretty sizeable water bowl, and I know she knows it exists, since I'll find bits of her substrate in there from her climbing in, but her behavior when I mist makes me concerned that she might not actually be drinking from the bowl. Is it possible she doesn't recognize the standing water as "drinkable", or am I just being paranoid?

I wouldn't be to concerned. Sounds like your skink is drinking just fine. If they go in their bowls and he is licking water droplets then it is drinking. Sometimes they can be tricky and you may not see them drink.

I wouldn't worry when I first got my lizard she was a baby and I was worried she wasn't drinking but on the fourth month of having her, I finally caught her drinking and have only seen her do it twice since so she probably does it when you're not around. :D
