I need some advice

Postby rocon319 » Tue Jun 02, 2020 3:54 pm

I think this is where I post?

Hi I just created this account to ask a few questions, and have some people’s personal opinion, I read the care sheet that this website has posted, and some of it, didn’t answer some of my questions so I’ll just leave it up to you people who hopefully see this.
(This is going to be a long post I’m sorry, I’m just nervous)
I have always wanted a BTS and I am looking for a Baby/Juvanile Northern so I have a few questions

#1 Breeders: I want a reliable breeder who genuinely cares for these animals, and aren’t just selling them for a quick profit, there is this place near me called CB Reptiles (I live in NJ), and am considering buy one from there, but is there another breeder you recommend.

#2 Substrate: I’ve watched ReptileMountainTV he suggests ZooMed Forest Floor which I will most likely be using, but he also said that small bugs like Nats, and Fruit Flies can be in it, and reproduce, so to get rid of those how long should I bake it, and At what tempature. Another YouTuber I asked told me he uses Coconut Coir but that’s for his Indonesian, I want to use the Forest Floor, but am not sure how to bake it.

3. Enclosure: Babies need a 10-20 Gallon correct?, and I should leave paper towels on the bottom so they can’t swallow any of the substrate then when they get older switch to my preferable substrate right?, and Adults need a 40 Gallon Minimum. I’m looking for one larger than that, that can hold a good amount of substrate to burrow, one that’s more rectangular than Square, and has a good amount of room for it to roam in, what place Would you recommend.

And lastly
#4 Night Time: I’ll just make this short and simple, when I turn off the UVB and Basking Light to go to bed will my room tempature be fine (it gets a hot during the summer I don’t have a air conditioner)

1. If you're looking for a local breeder in New Jersey, David Simon is in Brick. He's a first time breeder this year but an excellent guy, has lineage info on all of his skinks, and genuinely cares for therm. His information is in the Recommended Breeders section. * Edit Toms River, NJ

2. 250 degrees for an hour. Those bugs are generally harmless.

3. Personally recommend at least 4' by 2' in floor space.

4. As long as temperatures don't drop under 60 degrees, you'll be fine overnight. I'm not too far away in Philly and have never used night heat.
