If you decide to get another reptile to go in the tank
>> ditch the bedding that's in the tank - it's impossible to sterilize and will be full of paracite eggs and bacteria ( and what ever killed him ).

This was not your fault , it was 100% the fault of the crook who sold this trafficked and very sick skink to you and lied to you about it bring captively bred and healthy.

You wont be his only victim , not counting the unfortunate animals he's trafficking. This "breeder" needs to be stopped from trading.Time to name and shame the "breeder" so others will be warned off from buying from the crook.

I'd be demanding a FULL REFUND including all shipping costs and vet costs from this "breeder" . Time to lawyer up on him. You have rights as a consumer , use them , if you paid by credit card, get the transaction reversed by the card provider ( this was obviously a fraudulent transaction , a bonefide honest breeder will never sell or ship a sick animal ).

There is no shortage of bonefide honest & ethical breeders (in the USA) who have captive breeding programs of most skink species and who take great care of their breeders, the babies and juvenlies and ensure all skinks sold are in tip top health and eating well. The crooks ruin it for everyone as well as the customers who get burnt / ripped off and end up with a bad taste in their mouth .

I do not use social media but the rest of the planet does. I would alert the entire world of his wrongdoings. Once the word gets out no one will buy from him. The only way to get back at someone like that is through their pocketbook. Let him find another way to make money that does not involve defenseless animals.

$250 is worth chasing , I'd add the vet fees as well to the dispute .



Getting a transaction reversed is easy especially with credit cards and paypal.

Paypal
paypal : log in and find the transaction in your history
open a dispute in the Resolution Centre within 180 days of making your payment , don't let him fog you off or offer another reptile ( you want 100% of your money back )
make sure you keep all you documentation ( vet fees and reports ) , emails , txts
then as soon as you can do it, escalate it to a full blown DISPUTE and demand a full refund.

Follow these six steps if you find an unauthorized charge on your account.
1.Contact Your Bank. .
2.Contact the Vendor ( no point he's the crook in this case so don't tell him anything , he'll get a nasty surprise when suddenly the money disappears from his account LOL)
3.Dispute the Charge With Your Bank or Credit Card Company. ( fraudulent - you were sold not what you ordered fraudulently and the seller acted deceptively)
4.File a Fraud or Police Report. .
5.Switch Your Bank Drafts to Your New Account or Card. ( I'd do this )
6.Monitor Your Account and Credit Closely.

If you paid cash ( at a show or met him to buy it ) you've blown your money as he probably never even gave you his true name and address .
This would never happen here in Australia as every seller must be licenced and provide their keepers' permit licence number and name and address and every buyer must also do the same , else it's illegal to buy or sell or keep reptiles here (in Australia).
Tell everyone on FB , twitter , what have you about this crook , as well naming and shaming him her and on any other reptile keepers' message boards you are on. Make it very hard for him trade.

In my sleep deprived state I did forget to mention insects. I couldn't agree more with the previous post. They will help get your skink eating hopefully. If all else fails, then yes you can force feed. However, I am really hoping this is just a scared new little skink. Give it time and patience.
