Eye problem?

Well.. it’s been a couple weeks with Yoshi now. He still doesn’t really eat too much and only gets excited for bugs but I feel like I give him too many super worms.. anyway the point of this is that I’ve noticed he keeps closing one eye like it’s irritating him.. he was looking like he was about to shed a week ago but I haven’t really seen any skin in his enclosure, he’s a northern but I’m wondering if I should be misting his Forest Floor substrate to keep it humid while he’s shedding? Also, he still hates me and doesn’t want to be touched ever

Yes you can and should spray the substrate occasionally to boost the humidity, especially during sheds. Keeping the humidity around 50% is a good baseline and is especially important to monitor in the winter months when the humidity naturally is lower. If that has no effect on the current condition, your vet can prescribe medicated eye drops. Is the eye crusty at any point?

I think they close one eye when stressed aswell, that’s what I thought anyway, ven does it if I bother him when he’s in a bad mood so if there’s no crust or discharge from the eye maybe it’s just this? Can someone with more of a clue confirm if I’m right thinking this?

I've had that issue with young ones under three months old, that's why I do not use substrate right away. they are constantly shedding and rubbing on things and substrates can get in there and irritate them. There is an eye rinse I have used with success, repta-rinse or something similar I forget the name, and I'm not at home to check.

i dont really see any crusties or discharge, he/she is in the middle of a subborn shed, im only seeing small bits here and there.. problem is he's so flighty and scared i've only been able to hold him 3 times for about 30 seconds each since ive gotten him 3 weeks ago so getting eye drops in his eye or rubbing it with a wet paper towel seems impossible to me while im trying to earn his trust enough for him to even let me grab him. yesterday i was grabbing a chunk of something out of his cage and my finger was about 5 inches from him in his cave and he bit me so now i know what that's like

i read somewhere on here for northerns they dont recommend misting the tank because too much humidity for them can cause a respiratory infection? i definitely need to get a humidity gauge to see where i'm at- just figured with a northern i wouldnt need it. he has 2 waterbowls in his enclosure..
