Skink's Eye, mouth, and nose crusty

Postby radiicallity » Sun Jan 27, 2019 11:30 am

Hi, my 3 year old BTS has recently had this problem. I'll attach a picture.

This started a few weeks ago and has gotten progressively worse.
I have had her in a 40 gallon tank with a log hide, a shallow water bowl (cleaned and refilled daily), a few fake plants, and aspen shavings. She has a 75 watt heat bulb on for 12 hours off for 12. I feed her a mix of grain-free soft food and mustard greens dusted with calcium. I give her the occasional grapes, blueberries, night-crawlers, frozen thawed pinkie, and sometimes left over fish and chicken liver from my tegu. If you need anymore info just tell me.
Do you know what i can do?

Humidity is too low. Replace the aspen with cypress mulch and mist it daily. Aspen is not suitable for an Indonesian species. Do you know what subspecies you have? You'll need to keep your humidity at a minimum 60% to avoid this, possibly higher depending on what type you have. It's possible your skink has a respiratory infection because of chronic low humidity. If you see discharge coming from the nose or mouth or audible clicking or wheezing when breathing, get it to a vet ASAP.

The bubbles in the eyes already tell me he probably has a respiratory infection. This skink needs veterinary treatment ASAP.

Awe, poor baby. Definitely do everything as mb606587 says. Seeking veterinary help is essential, you don't want your little one getting worse. A better substrate will help. I like jungle mix with reptibark on top. Others that where listed also are good. You can also make a humid hide to help as well. Keep us posted on what the vet says and good luck.
