New BTW owner saying hello!

Postby TequilaBlueTongue » Sun Aug 19, 2018 7:38 pm

Hello everyone, I acquired my very first BTS. A friend of a friend needed to re-home him due to a move and me being me agree'd to take in the cutie. I did as much research I could in the few weeks before taking him and so far nothing too crazy has happened...only one escape. haha  How he fit through that hole I will never fully understand but he was found safe and sound in the couch.

Anyways, I just wanted to share some pictures and videos and make some introductions: My name is Jennie

And this is Tequila (formally known as Skittles)

Born June 13th 2016

I flipped a 90 gallon on its side to take advantage of its height and added vented sliding doors, mounted lighting.

Thank you! I already want another LOL

Hes still getting used to things, huffs occasionally (more so at my boyfriend than me, I think he knows I'm the one who feeds him  ) but he defiantly coming around, he is one curious guy...ever since the escape hes decided he can come out whenever I open the door and has now started to climb up onto me. Its a little intimidating haha hes a BIG dude...or at least I think he is a dude, I was told he was sold as a male from a breeder so I would assume that is correct, but he makes a 4 ft long tank look tiny.

They definitely know who feeds them. They love to explore and are very curious animals. Take advantage of him wanting to come out and be with you. That is a good thing. It means he trusts you. Make sure he is always supervised when out though. It is amazing what trouble they can get into. He is gorgeous Northern. Congratulations again.

Thank you!

There is a reptile expo the weekend before my birthday...pretty sure that I'll be getting another one then.

The hardest part about flipping a tank on its side is the lamp mounting and making sure there was sufficient air ventilation in the sliding doors. I ended up siliconing a block of wood to the "ceiling" of the tank so that I could screw in some hangers and clip and to keep the glass from getting too hot from the heat lamps. So far so good, that block is not going anywhere... I might make a post of the process, see if anyone has any other suggestions besides removing the whole glass side.
