Hi! I took in a blue-tongue skink from a former student who went to college. He has a back deformity that was there before my student had him; probably a result of a nutritional deficiency. Lately, he's also had the crusty eye problem and I've been trying to treat that but may take him to a vet.
Which brings me to another problem that came up today. One of my students had him out and he excreted red liquid out of his cloaca. I'm thinking it was from watermelon that he ate a few days ago. I also read that skinks have green blood. Does anyone have any input about this before I bring him to a vet? Thanks!

If I fed my skink too many blueberries, blackberries, or too much watermelon they would poop a red color that looks like blood.

Only a few weirdo species of lizard (and frog I think) have green blood, most reptiles have red blood.
Without having seen what you are talking about, we would only be guessing. Yes, it could be from the watermelon, but given there are other health issues it would be most prudent to take him to a vet for a good check over.
What species of BTS do you have? How are you addressing the nutrition and crusty eye/ humidity problems?

Hey there, my bluey has the same issue! Back deformity we are working on fixing, no eye problem, but he has red discharge I find on his bedding every day. It just started a few days ago - I haven't been feeding him watermelon but he is on critical care supplemental feeding until he gets weight back on and starts eating on his own. Did you ever find out what happened to your guy? Before I make a vet visit too, we've already been a number of times.... Thank you!!!
