Finally found a bluey

Finally found a bluey

So I've been hunting a bluey down since May and I've finally found one at a reptile specialist shop about 45 minutes from my house :D . He's a super friendly year old Iriain Jaya a little over a foot in length for 425$ cad, problem is I was expecting a northern and have prepared for a northern. Will I have to change the bedding in my tank? (Aspen) also what kind of humidity do I need from him? (P.s I'm going to pick him up Saturday morning :D )

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. I was planning on getting an Irian Jaya before I got my Northern, so I did some research on them myself a while back. There are a couple of caresheets here that should help you out:

Indonesian species like the IJ do need higher humidity than a Northern, so I would switch the bedding over to cypress mulch or something similar that holds humidity well (which I know is more expensive, but it works well as you'll need a humidity of about 60%). Again, I'm so happy you found a little buddy! You'll find tons of useful info on this site; welcome aboard! :ohyes:

Congratulations! Be sure to post some pictures as soon as hes settled in!

Laceflower has about covered it. Humidity is the big one for gigas keepers.

What shop did you get him from? I'm also in BC and am always interested in finding new reptile places.

I got him from aquariums west in Vancouver. I picked him up from the shop today and he's really friendly. I also got new substrate mix of cypress mulch and coconut husk. So far the humidity seems fine. I just put a towel I top and that holds anything the substrate doesn't
