My blue tongue escaped :c

Postby Cedar » Sun Oct 02, 2016 3:33 am

I really didn't want my first post to start on a bad note but here it is :c

I have been crying all day.

I let my blue tongue out to roam around, first on the grass and he really enjoyed it so when we had to go I brought him upstairs. I skink proofed the whole room, took all the wires and made sure that it was safe and closed all the doors.

I left for two minutes to get some water and when I get back, I see him climbing into the cupboard which was really strange because it was closed and when I walked closer I freaked out, He was actually climbing into was some random hole underneath a shelf that was small and really hard to see if you are not at skink height, I couldn't even put my whole hand in it!!! And it is virtually invisible if you're standing or even crouching.

He went in there and I tried to get him out but he wouldn't get out. And the whole time I was panicking and crying. And that's not even the worse bit, because in the weird cupboard hole there is nowhere to go, so it would have been okay.

But then there was ANOTHER tiny hole that was where all the wires go and leads INTO the walls. And he went in there and now he is gone. He could be anywhere in the walls now and I've been crying a lot because I love the guy to death and we were making so much progress and I've only had him for too short of a time. I was planning to spend years and years with him. So I've been sobbing all day and blaming myself. I just wish there was something I could have done.

We've taken part of the shelf apart and made the entry hole a little bigger so he can get out, and I've put the heat lamp and cat food there. I'm planning on sleeping in the room tonight to see if he's going to come back.

I am completely devastated. Please check for strange holes in walls and in places you never expect. Hopefully he will come back, I might get another one if not but it really won't be the same. That guy had such personality and was a quirky curious banana and egg loving lil dude. ;^;

Aw, I'm so sorry. Think positive, though, they have quite a sense of smell and I bet he comes out for some food...try some really stinky cat or dog food and I think he will surface! Good luck to you, I can imagine how bad you must be feeling. They can go quite a while without food so try not to worry, I think your beloved pet will come back.

They can survive a long time when they are escaped in the house so stay positive, one of my cheeky monkeys got out and was missing for a good 2-3 weeks, turned up when i heard it trying to climb up some curtains one day.

Do you have a dish of food at the hole to coax him out, it may take awhile he might sleep and hide in there for a few days or weeks but he should come out when he smells the food and feels like a bite.

If this was my Skink I would have tore the wall down right after it happened. You can repair a wall, you can't bring back your buddy. If you can hear him break the wall. I can't imagine how scared he is right now.

My bts yesterday was safely in this enclosure that we made for him and he has been in many times before, and he also found a small hole and ran away. I know that bts aren’t active lizards so I looked around with my family for ages but we still couldn’t find him. I am devastated too. I hope that yours will be found because at least you know he is somewhere in your house, mine is outside and i don’t think I’ll see him again :(
Thanks for your help,
