Blue tongue skink, genes/species.

Hello.
A week ago I bought a two months old blue tongue skink. The sex is unknown. I bought it from a pet shop and the owner is known to be pretty great with reptiles. He told me it was a Tiliqua S. Scincoides. But when I posted photos of the skink online, a lot of people bombarded me with things like "isn't that a hybrid?", "isn't it ij?" and I simply do not know, 'cause I kind of trusted the guy I bought it from - I didn't know people would lie about these things, since I'm pretty new in the reptile-world.

I asked Joe Ball, and he told me the skink is a Tiliqua S. Scincoides, and I hope he is right.

But what do you guys think?

I need opinions based on evidence and knowledge and language a "newbie" can understand.

1) It would help us greatly to answer your question if we knew where you were located. If you are in Australia or New Zealand, then there is no doubt that you have a T. s. scincoides --an Eastern--
If you are, however, outside of those two countries, then there might be some question as to whether it was an IJ, but in my opinion, it looks like an Eastern.

2) Joe Ball knows what he is talking about for sure, ; if it were me, I'd go with what he says

I am certainly not as experienced as many, but I am not convinced it is from a line of pure Eastern. It's tail is very long for an Eastern and the colour of the markings in certain places should show a little darker variation... but it may be the light in the photo...

Having said that I'm not sure what else it would be crossed with in Australia, northern probably the only real option. Where are you located?

The pattern on the front arms make me lean towards Irian Jaya or perhaps a mix. Definitely has a scincoides "look", other than the front arms and long tail.

Probably one of the most missidentifies types of bluetongue often being labled as a tiliqua scincoides

Tail looks way to long to be an eastern, beyond that no clue.
