Lost skink in house, ideas on finding?

Hey everyone,

So, I have a pretty friendly BTS, Tux (that I call a she, I don't know the gender, though) that I let roam the house fairly often. Over a year now and have had zero problems finding her... until today.

So, the problem arose when one of my children wanted to take Tux upstairs to my room. They have been handling Tux really well for the past year and Tux isn't a squirmer, she doesn't mind being held. Only, I can't find Tux in the cage or in my room where the cage is located, and they assure me they left her in my room.

I know the care sheet says to look in places where low sounds and humming/buzzing occur, but the only place that was humming in any way was the laundry room, and I've checked that room. I'm just running out of dark hidden places to look.

So, is there a way to set up a skink trap? Of like, super delicious food and make it waft out into the open to lure said skink out? Or something? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Keep all the doors closed for each room unless your going in and out and place a food dish of his favourite food in each room, he will eat from one of them eventually and you will be able to narrow down what room he is in.
When you know what room he is in then search every single nook and cranny, i once had mine sleeping in a printer and also under a TV unit.

Whew, I found her! she was... somehow on the bathroom counter, under the hand towel... I go to the bathroom, wipe my hands, and boom, she's there! SO relieved! Now I can go to bed and sleep peacefully, and have a chat in the morning with the kiddos! ... about not forgetting where one puts their BTS. /sigh

Yeah they can turn up in odd places, in my bedroom i have sliding door cupboards, one of my Easterns has learnt to open it, go inside and then close it after himself to try to hide in there.

Oh the joys of an escaped BTS. I have had my share of experiences, but one time one escaped their enclosure when I had them all housed on the verandah. I did not shut the screen door, either!! I found him tucked cozily in an old box. He roosted there over the night, I assume.

Highly reccomend sipervising free roaming skinks,especially with kids ect sharing the house

I don't fully supervise mine when it roams, but i keep the door closed so he is only in my room and there is only a couple places for him to hide, knooks and cranneys i block with books and such.

Manu a person has thought a book or two on lid of a cage could stop lizard lifting lid to get out only to come home to an escaped lizard

Call me paranoid but i would like to have a lizard cruising around unsupervised,any thing could happen that other wise wouldnt if it was siperbised in the first place

I second that one, Richard. Have had calls from frantic friends at all hours asking how to find an escaped BT, they seem to be very good at it! A problem easily solved by putting screen clips on your low tanks, and supervising when playtime!
