Update on Treasure (blotchy)(Pic heavy!)

Postby alichamp » Mon Jul 13, 2015 3:45 pm

We have had Treasure 4 months now and he has been doing great, especially the last month or so he has really settled in.
When we first got him he weighed 60g and measured 19 cm total length. He is now 106g and 17.5cm SVL (25cm total).
My daughter is going to post some more info below.

They do change a bit as they grow and continue to change as they age as well. I find mine go through an awkward teenage phase where they often develop spots within the blotches which disappear when they are fully mature. As sub adults sometimes the colours also become subdued. Some even develop black speckling under the chin etc like a bad teenage beard - normally on males.

Sounds like fun Lainey does he use it often?

What age exactly does that happen at Scott, my blotch bub is between 7-9 months old i think, last weighed in at:

5/7/2015
Weight: 185Grams.
Length -
To Tail: 33cm.
To Hind Legs: 21cm.

Breeder i got him off said he was born back on 19/1/2015 but you expected it to be born roughly November due to its size.

Generally they are more or less mature in their 3rd year. They are big lizards so size is about right for age, although I have some born around the same time about 300g. Awkward phase from about 6 months on.

Wow another shed just 4 weeks later! This guy has seen some serious growth spurts the last 6 weeks or so, now:
(w) 204g, that's double the last measure!
(svl) 22cm
(tl) 32cm

Not only is he better at eating but shedding too. This time I only had to help with one set of toes and half a head, the rest of the shed he did entirely on his own!

Sure does! She's still very "proud" of him and does a great job feeding and keeping the enclosure clean. She is storing up his skin, apparently she has promised her friends some. :hehe:

Thats good that it still gets lots of love and attention, the first time my Blotchie shed his whole tail shed in 1 piece so i put it on my finger so it was like a pointy witch finger, snuck up behind my old man(father) and scratched him on the back of the ear with it, he jumped scared.

His pinky colours have lost a bit of their colour now, not nearly as bright as when we got him as a baby. I'm guessing this is what Scott was describing above, in which case I can probably expect his colours to come good again once mature.

Here he is watching me carefully... from the other side of the couch.

Still going good, growing nicely through awkward stages of getting bulky around the middle and funny colouring on blotches.

Now almost 9 months old. Still very lazy hiding from us and sleeping most of the time - he tends to come out from hiding every 2-3 days for a bask and a look around (I guess anticipate feeding days). I think he is starting to get that he can come out and be visible and we won't pounce on him to get him out. Takes restraint from us though!

Biggest change is that recently he is now keen for more variety in diet and eats his salads! So we are offering more. Before, he would only eat dog food protein. Currently feeding twice a week.

In the pics below, we hid a few blueberries around his enclosure for him to find :)

Treasure is a lovely looking blotched bluey. Looks like he's getting a lot of love and attention as he grows up, Lainey. Well done for taking care of him. Does he have any nicknames?
