Re: Look Who All Decided to Show Up
We have different definitions of good then. Weight-wise she is not bad, though. Her toes are causing her a lot of pain. She can barely walk without jerking her feet back in pain. Soaked her today to help to get all the layers of shed off. She has a toe that is swollen 3 times the size of a normal toe. However, when I got all the shed off, it bled. Bleeding means it can hopefully still be saved. Will have to wait until she sheds before I start dealing with her eye issues. I'm going to power feed her to speed up this process, but as of today, she isn't interested in food much. She ate 3 blueberries and a small bite of dog food. Going to give her a few days to acclimate then start offering again. She has an eye that occasionally bubbles, but I don't think she has a respiratory infection. Upon inspection, she has a lot of shed gummed up in the corner of her eye causing irritation.

That list of ailments that poor Vera has makes me cringe. Glad that you'll be helping her get better! I'm sure she'll look as good as the rest of the bunch in no time!

Re: Look Who All Decided to Show Up
ahhh,so she may shed the eye issue you think
yes getainef shed, esspecially on feet cause the issues you see, bighttp take her a few sheds to start being able to shed that area effectsfectivly on her own, when it bleeds etc its beyond just retained sheds as foot area is like a wound, hence it bleeds removing the shed, but has ti be done to rectify the issue and it gets better with every shed if you stay onto of helping to rid it
you thread on faceok page about getting owner to suerender it over painted the picture of a skunk in really really bad shape, skin and bone etc,did it get to vet before u took it in?
i can remember half the members calling previous owner every name under the sun, some not very nice things being said, which is why i jumped in on that thread, looking at skink now im even more glad i did,not saying it looks in pristine condition
but its far from the sickly skink those others were cutting looke on previous owner about
keep us posted on how it progresses, she's a nice looking lass,be interesting to see her color after a shed

Re: Look Who All Decided to Show Up
The previous owner has reached out for help, but could not fix it. I have never talked bad about him, and when people do, I try to justify. He obviously cares for the skink, and has asked me to even update him on her progress. I never recall saying it was skinny - I am pretty sure you are referring to the last Halmahera picture I posted. That skink is not the same as this skink. That skink is still getting vet care.
Here is a picture of her eye. It is kinda hard to tell what is going on with it. The bottom lid sinks in? Not sure. She shed about 2 weeks ago, so won't shed for another few weeks unfortunately. She is a very, very deep red. So freaking gorgeous. Crazy how variable they are - none of my Halmaheras are the same color.

Have you considered the possibility of gout?

Not sure if this was a joke, but you made me chuckle. I remember when Hunter had these toe problems when I got him, I was convinced it was gout due to some recommendation here. Took him to the vet, and it wasn't.
But kidding aside, I am taking her to the vet in a few weeks if the problems don't get any better and doing the "mystery illness" procedure. Not all of her toes are like this, though. She does have 4 healthy-looking toes.

Re: Look Who All Decided to Show Up
But I'll keep that in mind, and I will ask about it if I end up taking her to the vet.
Here is Amelia. She is a three-year-old Halmahera I got SPECIFICALLY for Riley. She has the same thin-bands, same general light orange color (she is more orange), etc. At first I wasn't interested, but she is so gorgeous. Love how orange she is. I'm glad I got the chance to acquire her. Hopefully she will have babies this time next year!

Gout in reptiles is very real, primarily introduced by a too much protein weighted diet.

I've been offered blueys in need of rehab but had to pass up for fear of introducing pathogens from blueys which were probably wild caught.

Aww, Dakota, so glad you have them all back. I seriously don't know what I would do if I had to spend even a day without mine. They are my reason for getting up in the morning. I'm sure you will fix up the one with the issues, couldn't be in more capable hands. Wish I could give them a welcome home party! All the best.

Re: Look Who All Decided to Show Up
Thanks all. You don't really appreciate what good of a collection you got until you send them away for months. I'm very glad I got them back. These guys really help with my depression and anxiety. Bad times for me while they were away. I resulted to seeing a psychiatrist, but I think I'll discontinue now.

I totally understand that one. Have dealt with d/a issues in the past also, and my pets are the reason for my sanity today! Welcome home to all your sweeties. Caring for animals has got to be the worlds best therapy.

Re: Look Who All Decided to Show Up
So very happy for you the herd is back together. It was a lot of fun having a bunch of gorgeous meraukes around these last 6-7 months and I'll admittedly miss Ema the most, even though I think he gave me a few more greys with his extreme hunger strike he put me through. lol.
