UPDATE ON QUAZIMODO!
He is shedding again for the second time in three months so we should know for sure about his tail but I think you were right. It did shed last time, his tail is just different.
As for the dog food, WOW!, put a small container of Cezar dog food in with him and he literally dove into it!
So, thank you all so much for your help. We have a happy, well balanced skink. He is much happier now! Funny how you can tell when he is happy. His personality is huge! Thanks again!
