[*]Hey guys, so most of my set up is currently aspen. I'm looking at making my terrarium more eye catching by building different levels inside. I'm thinking of using a bit of either fake reptile moss or astroturf. I should mention that about 80% will remain aspen as I know that's probably one of the best substrates.
Basically I would like to know which is best to use and why. Ideally I want what's best for the Little skink and looks nice. I'll be posting pictures once the conversion is completed. Thanks!
Moss or astroturf???

Fake moss will look better and you won't have to worry about the little strings that AstroTurf has.

Re: Moss or astroturf???
What Romeyrider said .... but being organic the fake moss is harder to disinfect and may become a habitat for other life - a colony of tiny springtails lives in my moss and is slowly decomposing it
- perfectly harmless to my skink but unsightly.

Re: Moss or astroturf???
i would go with something that can be easily cleaned or replaced if it gets pooped on. if the structure the moss/turf is placed on is removable, that makes cleaning easier, but if it's not removable, i'd probably either cover it with substrate that can be scooped and cleaned, or make it out of grout that can be wiped off and sanitized.

Re: Moss or astroturf???
Personally, I'd stay away from the astroturf for BTs. I used it years ago for my water dragons and one of them would scratch at it in the corner and expose fibers and pieces that could be ingested accidentally. Also had to have plenty extra pieces on hand to replace while washing. I'd stick with the aspen.
