#1st mating - Meraukes

Hi guys!
I bought a male merauke not so long ago, maybe a month or two, and after some check ups regarding mites and so on, i found him clean and 100% ready for this breeding season. Well, ive read a lot about timings and all, its hard enough finding the right time to let them mate as i see and so i tried it out ..

They did it 5 times in a row, with male reaching nicely his spot and doing the job.

The weight was 961 grams, now her weight is scaling of -> 1030 grams in 22 days

Ehehehehe thanks a lot! I still find my english not so good but i try the best of myself, and i love trading infos and all about herpetology with people outside Italy, learning from experiences, so i have to speak/write english!

I REALLY cant take pics of the male, he will eat me maybe hes truly devil
Calm and quiet with her, but when i move myself near the tank .. I cant let you imagine what he can do!

When ill clean the tank with garden-gloves ill take some pics!

Its great your able to communicate with us,and pic of male when u get a chance,yes some males can be fiesty,least hes gentle with the female,lol

Hi guys, im back
Yeah, strange but true, she has not dropped yet.

210 days from the last mating ( plus they live together )
and ... 1115 grams !!! Eating once every week, as always, but still gaining weight. So, gravid or not? O__O

Sounds like she did was my girl did - either:
a) dropped and ate the slugs or
b) they were never gravid and we're just crazy

The chances she is gravid is slim to none. Awesome looking classic gigas gigas!

She had my eyes on her all the time, so i doubt about a) ate the slugs
talking about b) , well, maybe its all about dreaming and it can either be ok. But now i cant understand why she gained so much weight with the same diet ( i own her since 01/2014 )

01-2014 she was 800grams with a lot of parasites ( main colony + eggs )
03-2014 cleaned and paired 04-2014 with 850-900 grams
from 04-2014 to 11-2014 she gained 200 grams and pretty fast i would say. Now 1115 grams and she eats once a week ( a spoon and a half of food ), with a well balanced diet with greens, fresh snails and dog food ( 1st quality also :O chicken / rabbit or quails )

I think my vet should look at her

If she really is still gravid this late in the game an xray would most definitely show the babies little spinal columns inside her. It would at least put your mind at ease about whether or not shes really gravid. I know a forum member here who had a female merauke do everything a female should when gravid, gained wait, basked non stop, even started breathing heavy but she ended up not being gravid.

plus counting from a mating can sometimes throw numbers off, its not from last mating, rather when she ovulated. If you didn't catch the ovulation then its pretty hard to guess an exact number of days theyre gravid. For experienced breeders who know theyre animals its a bit easier but someone like you or me it can really turn into a guessing/waiting game,

Uh, me! Bummer she wasn't gravid, I was so determined she was.

They are both great looking! I have to say your efforts on ridding them of parasites is a great feat! Keep taking care of them! The male is good looking with his gold speckled face! I recently read a male and a female can be housed together. I don't know how my big 'ol male Tanimbar would act if I introduced a female Tanimbar in his enclosure... !!

Ive won vs parasites in 30 days ( godly therapy ), the female was really bad housed from the previus owner When she was cleaned up and gained some weight, i paired her with the male. They live together without problems, they eat-sleep-bask nicely. Plus the tank is really big, 165 centimetres x 55 centimetres x 55 centimetres h

My bad i lost the ovulation, so im totally blind about her "suspected" pregnancy .. Grrrrhw!

While the meraukes live together, i think my gigas gigas wont tolerate a female near him all the time, we will see.
Ill get a female gigas gigas for this male at the Hamm show, i love the indos

I don't have experience with classic Tiliqua gigas gigas, but I've heard they aren't the best together, unlike Halmaheras.

I would not keep classic Indos together unless you have them in a VERY large enclosure.
