substrate from home depot/lowes
I was wondering if anyone used any mulch/bark from home depot as substrate successfully? I was just out at home depot picking up marble rocks for the yard and realized their bark was much cheaper for how much you would get. I came across a brand called great gardens which had mulch and bark nuggets and I was wondering if anyone knew of anything wrong with using these as substrates for bts. any help would be appreciated!

Re: substrate from home depot/lowes
I would not use any mulch or "nuggets" that don't give you the contents/composition on the label. Many of these contain cedar or cheaper pines that have aromatic oils that could be harmful to reptiles. I use 100% cypress mulch from a garden center. I recently switched brands to one that I like better because the mill on it is finer and it seems to hold moisture better. I called the company first and innocently asked what other woods it might contain. Only after I was told "it's 100% cypress and nothing else" did I switch to this brand with my reptiles.
