Baby cunningham's

Postby mark_w » Sat Jun 07, 2014 8:55 am

Just seen a baby cunningham's in with one of my groups of SA/VIC animals. This is an older female who often has litters over several days. Can only see one right now, but hopefully she will keep going!!! Female in my other group of this form is also ready to drop at some point soon...

Re: Baby cunningham's & tree skinks

Postby mark_w » Sun Jun 08, 2014 3:39 am

There are now at least four babies in with this group. I also found a long dead one in with my other group of this form. No sign of any others. Could have been still born I suppose...

Also saw the first baby tree skink this morning. Had 8 last year and so am hoping for 8 or 10 this year.

Right I will try to get pics, although they all scatter when I try to approach!

With the striolata I left the babies in the first time they bred in 2011. Started with 4 x 2009 babies. Once they had grown up and bred (at 2 years of age), producing 2 babies, I left these in, so now have a group of 6 adults.

The second year I had 5 babies and sold these to a German breeder. The third year (last year) I sold all 7 babies to different German breeder. This year I have already had an offer from someone else (also German!) to buy all my babies. Basically no one in the UK has even heard of these but they are valued in Germany, as you can tell!

Last year I had only 1 baby cunningham's and I left that in with the parents. So right now this group has 2,1 older adults (12 - 14 years old), 0,0,1 from last year (half grown) and at least 4 2014 babies!

Right, I managed a couple of "through the dirty glass" shots. The cunnis were off as soon as the camera clicked the first time! The trees were a little calmer.

Cunningham's - could this little guy be any cuter?

Rich I have an old article (like from the 1970's) from the Herptile magazine which is about a colony of cunningham's which the author built up in the UK. Ended up with like 25 in a 10 foot home made viviarium with wheelbarrows full of rocks in it. This was in the old days of hardly any photos which were in black and white anyway, and I don't think there were any at all with this article. Would have loved to have seen that set up!!!!

Rich I know that at least a few of the German enthusiasts come on here but don't post...

You should see newborn depressa, the southern form. Now they are tiny!

Thanks for the pics Mark.
