I am going to that on the next occasion that I film. The Cunningham Skinks got over their fear of it much more quickly. I was hoping for some Kings skink nastiness towards the camera, but it never occurred. :hehe:

I will have some more this season, or I can organize some a bit older if you know the sex of the ones you still have.

Only have one now,not 100 percent on gender but it is alot lighter in build than the one that passed, heads half as bulky but there lengths were similar and they were siblings

When i warmed them this year, lighter built one did tail wiggle then flee response to bigger one,a few times but other then that they pretty much were always with each other

Have a feeling it may have gotten to hot in last heat wave

The mainland species seems to be more robust in girth than the island subspecies. What is the average length of them? We never see the mainland form in the USA.

I didn't even realise this thread was here! Love these guys. As stated above they are so feisty, yet always seem to be out in the open. Almost fearless.

Here are a couple of one of my yearlings. I'm a bit worried about their size being too small for their age, but then again I'm not really sure how quick they should be growing. This on is about half the size of the adults. Should they be larger by this age?

Thanks Richard,

My understanding is that these come from around Jurien Bay. I also have one from a bit further south of there which is a bit darker.

I have also seen pictures of another yellow spotted form from the far south that I wouldn't mind adding to the collection one day.

Bought a couple of new kings today that I'm hoping are a pair. Both have heaps of yellow. They are in quarantine at the moment but I'll try and get some better pics when they are settled in.

The first pic I'm picking as male, second as female. If anyone has tips on how to reliably sex these please let me know!

Cheers mate,

Sorry to hear about your male. If you want I'll try and set you up with a group if I can breed them next year.

These appear to be the island form. Funny how this form is already in Europe but the mainland species is not.

With my trio I am lucky as my male is lighter in colour than my females. But generally speaking, the male is a bigger animal, the head is longer and narrower than the females. As with most Egernia the differences are only subtle.

I took a couple of comparison pictures this morning, I don't know how helpful they are but here we go.

They really hate handling, took a bit of time for them to settle for the pics.

These guys are from the late Mike Moore's line( most Kings in collections on the east coast are). As far as I'm aware, none of the pretty limestone speckly ones have been captive bred in the east.

Cheers

Great pictures RB. Thans for taking the time to post them. Like you said, very subtle differences, but great to have as a reference. I will be coming back to study these multiple times.
