sometimes its hard to witness them do any mating,so can never rule it out,3 seasons i have seen prs mate, only once did babies come, one was slugs last season,6 seasons i saw nothing and got bubs for example

last season i sat for hours watching over a few weeks,i saw males just walk up and hold females with a gentle bite for a couple of weeks leading up to mating, then it was male persuing female around cage and trying to secure her, they can be clumsy buggers,i witnessed 2 matings from go to whoa with one female and possably just missed a 3rd with a smaller female, caught hemipene in last stages of being retracted with them still side by side with tails lifted

i spent hours watching over probably a month to only witness that, but there was alot of time i couldnt watch so who knows what i missed

Well done ! It s a special experience when you find a beautiful baby shingleback laying by its mothers side. I can't wait for the southern hemisphere birthing season. Would love to see how the baby colors up in the future.

It has really developed nicely Fred. I was shocked too, to see how much mine changed over the first 6 months. I hope we are both lucky enough to watch many more go through these changes.

Looking great Fred! Not sure what you were thinking, but I'm guessing female. Mine tend to continue to colour up until they are about 3 years old, so she should get even brighter yet.

She's coming along great Fred.

If you don't mind me asking, what method was used to sex her? I've got a bunch of babies here that I'm struggling to sex. I've never been able to do it with any accuracy until they are 6 months or more.

Yours are all male achanthurus, ill take them if u like, lol

Kidding aside, ive only had one rugosa, actually swapped it for a couple of blotchy bubs from a petshop thinking it was an aspera,as my old aspera pr had just had there first litter i thought id increase bloodline, its a dark rugosa, black brown and white, still kicking my self for not gettong its 2 siblings as well

With my aspera babies, when fresh born you can usually see difference in sexes if they are a pr at least, had a couple of 2 male litters as well but its 50 50 then as to 2 of what until theu get some size happening, but also this form of aspera is very easy to sex visually, other types, especially big heavy forms it can be trickier,so like most methods not always 100 percent
