Northern Juvs eating dried catfood video

After recent chats with Jinjajoe, I thought I would have a go at feeding some dried catfood to one of my litters of NT northerns. I filmed it today just after lunch, and it was a very hot day and you will notice the blueys soaking in their water bowl. They were a little tentative at first but most of them did graze upon the catfood at some point, still no where near the same reaction as to wet dogfood and vegie mix.

Probably good for between wetfood feedings,and it wont get stinky after sitting for a while,u could moisten it possably to

I've never even considered using dry food before. Might give it a go at some point. As Richard said, it wouldn't go off as quickly.

I fed my IJ dry cat-food for like 3 years, and I only seen her eat it once..

But I knew she was eating it, because she stayed at a healthy weight.

Chewy devours high quality dry dog kibble when he is offered it from time to time. I offer it occasionally to make sure his mouth stays healthy. A discussion about mouth problems on here in the past mentioned that harder foods can help keep their gums healthy, so I figured why not.

After doing additional research I did continue to feed a mixture of dry and wet food, it really depended what was on hand at the moment but I know I've gone several months without wet dogfood(dry food with some water and mixed with veggies). I've noticed no differences in health of animals during these admittantly short trials-they eat by volume more canned food but that is to be expected. Previous brands I got all had to be hydrated before offering else they would not be readily taken.

However recently(partly due to this thread) I looked around some petstores more and found Biljac brand dogfood. It comes in little extruded sticks instead of hard kibble. The skinks go for this stuff straight out of the bag no problem like the video.

I think most use it so it doesnt need moistening and lasts between normal feedings without going off,critter guy ive wondered about the semi softfood to,seems to have a decent shelflife so may also be a good option

Im to set on wetdogfood,which has worked great for me,so havnt bothered experimenting with other options,my thoughts being if it aint broke,dont fix it

I keep alot of stuff in groups and they are forever crapping in or on bowls ect,i reckon if i had dryfood in there they would stick cherries on top so to speak
I might experiment with the northerns,perhaps with constant food availability competion wont be as much of an issue

I know both Ol Roy and Purina make a stick pellet type semimoist food. However high fructose corn syrup is one of the major ingredients-I'm guessing to make them semimoist-so I passed.

Its been about a week or so of me feeding Biljac food and if anything my skinks are making more poops than normal because the food is constantly available compared to the once a week or two feedings previously.

When we let our Northern out, he immediately seeks out the cat food bowls for some kibble. Loves it! But as a general rule, he isn't fed the kiibble, just as a treat.
