Re: Are we sure this thing isnt a Tanimbar?
Bands like westerns?
1 other thing to keep in mind, especially if an import is the possability that a tanny and something else fooled around whilst in holding before export
I havnt seen alot of tannies but sone show banding better than others, but usually they arent so thinly banded like that one,but band thickness and counts in scincoides can vary, particularilly in easterns
My first thoughts were ij ,going off banding to,but glossyness and color is off, which makes me wonder if perhaps some pre exportation shenanigans occured
Andrew used to talk about different tannies being imported back in the 90s,more color forms though, green ones and brown ones ect
I think we need a thread on tannies,we dont see enough of them unfortunatly, hint hint tannie keepers

Re: Are we sure this thing isnt a Tanimbar?
I highly doubt that this animal was the result of holding facility fooling. Although that would explain its appearance for sure. I suspect this animal to be fairly old. It was a large adult when it came in and has a reasonable amount of scarring on the tail, jaw, and a little on the underside. I have a feeling this thing was plucked out of the jungle somewhere, probably not to long before making it into the country. If it was a hybrid produced in a holding facility it probably would have be3n imported as a baby. Thats the way it usually works at least. The exporter doesnt want to have to feed the animal till it hits adult size.

Re: Are we sure this thing isnt a Tanimbar?
Haha Richard I actually had that article out about an hour ago. I've been looking at every photo of every skink that I can find trying to figure this out. I had planned on pairing this animal yesterday so I'm rushed to find a picture that fits. Again, i dont want to risk making some hybrid babies. I'm hoping that someone else who keeps tanimbars and IJs will chime in with an opinion soon. I want that kei in the photo though. Awesome animal. This things looks scincoides in every way. Body wise it looks almost northern in person. Longer tail than an eastern, shorter than an IJ. Body wise it looks nothing like any of the gigas species. Trust me I've compared them all lol. Ignoring the pattern I would say tanimbar for sure. Looking at just the pattern its definitely an IJ. So confused. Haha

Ahhhhhhhh, now I get why Richard posted the yellow Kei. So do you think it is an IJ, Richard? Just a more monochromatic Auburn one? Lol. If yes, then I would agree.

Re: Are we sure this thing isnt a Tanimbar?
Questions:
1) How does it feel when you hold it? Compared to your other skinks?
2) Can you get pictures indoors using flash? Two similar photos, with/without flash, would be nice.
3) Picture of the eyes? EDIT: Nvm, seems to be a silver-tanny thing.
4) Picture of top of head, very close up? (Is there a pattern visible in the scales around the 3rd eye?)
5) Does it pee if you hold it? All my tannies pee on me
The face is right. The gloss is right. The attitude is certainly right. But I am leaning towards not tanimbar. I'm spotting several things that don't really mesh. I'll come back later tonight and write it out (sorry, water day).

Ok, so after a really nice conversation with Ray, I am now 100% sure that its a tanimbar.
Mel, she leaks like a faucet just about everytime I pick her up. She is rock solid, like a skink on steriods. She is solid in a way that ive only ever felt in my other tanimbar. Ill get a few more pics tomorrow evening with and without flash
