Yes, but here they typically call them that in the "hood", normally we say "tank tops".

I'm sure it would even vary between what part of the US you are from. What I stated is how I always learned it..

Thanks for clarifying. I've always seen it to be dependent on age group. Adults I've noticed call them wife beaters, but the "young and hip" group call them tank tops.

That one gets me the most, one of my fears about visiting Australia is that I will laugh when men talk about wearing thongs. On a side note, do you guys put shrimp on the barbie?
