Yeah, what she does in the video is normal behavior for mating BTS. Male attacking female, female reacting nervous/scared/ect.. All normal.

Some females actually harras males to get males in the mood,also some females are so fiesty,males are to scared to try and if they do they end up fleeing

Outdoors in open space theres often chases where males chase females a fair bit before securing them so mating is different again to close quarter matings

You guys have got your meraukes mating before my blotchies have even started,though blotchie males are checking females out now so should be anytime,slow start this year

I just got my 3rd breeding.. Well possible breeding. I put them together, and came back 10 minutes later with Ema's tail sticking straight up with his hemipene everted with sperm on it.. So, I'm 99% sure I got a 3rd breeding.. Was hoping to get it on videp. :'(

Dakota: Where are you getting such specific temperature data from? It is difficult to tell even from the regions climate what temperatures the animals are experiencing, able to tolerate, and what works best. Just saying.

Also, I would reccomend against pairings on aspen substrate...you do not want a bit of shaving sticking to a hemipene and getting drawn back in. Small chance of that happening-but pairing on carpet or similar surface completely removes this risk.

After pairings are done, I bring him in to make sure he sucks in no substrate in to cause any problems. I try to make little changes to feel natural as he is VERY secretive about it. They don't mate on carpet in the wild, and he would know that.

And they don't breed on a substrate composed of aspen chips either. As long as the male is able to gain solid footing this should not be a factor in success.

Just got my 4th breeding attempt, but she moved at the last second and he couldn't insert. Maybe he will try later.

ETA: After reviewing the video, he does appear to be inserted, but for only about 3 to 5 seconds.

It was pretty intense! They run pretty quick, and males are VERY determined.. Hehe..

I have been housing Hunter and Xaunder together for a while now, but that was purely as a backup incase the others didn't mate.. And now that they did, they are both separated. No breeding from that pair, and no bite marks on her either, so hopefully when the cold front comes in tonight, she will pick up like Virginia did on the last cold front.

Yeah just keep trying,suprisingly even with same conditions,females can cycle at different times,my 2 northern females housed full time with a male are on average a week apart with cycling through to having babies,yet live together so have access to exact same conditions,they all vary,not all consistant,the blotchies outdoors are the same to
