Stunning group!!
First time i saw a pic of this variety I thought it was photoshopped.

Dakota, these guys are wild collected and sold for that price as pairs by licenced collecters, seeing as how they get them for nothing then up the price to that level, and u think there worth it,how can you have digs at someone trying to sell one they got for nothing for 200 dollars

Double standards a tad bit :hehe:

To my knowledge this form is simply not present in Europe or America and so all this discussion about prices in the US is somewhat hypothetical

Search "Goldfield Shinglebacks Daytona 2011.wmv" on Youtube, find Ray's video.. they were in the US..

Are the orange and white ones considered Goldfields, or is it only the orange and black ones?

The ones pictured in this thread are some of the brightest you will see, lots of them have alot more black to them but still have the orange and white/yellowish colours to them

The light orange and white one id say is a hills type or maybe a coastal, third one looks coastal, the brightness of orange on the noggin is a goldfields trait, body wise some arent overly orange, acanthurus has made a group of some of the nicest examples of this form, alot dont even come close to his in the looks department but still have the trademark traits, just less orange and more of the black

Like all locales color can vary and im sure some would appear quite drab, but the colors in this locale are combinations usually of what u see in these pics,im sure acathurus has seen quite a few wild ones in person and can shed more light on the issue

I remember seeing the video from Daytona and I have to agree with Richard. One was a goldfields, the other was a very nice looking hills form.

Goldfields is probably the most variable local of shingleback and maybe even of Tiliqua in regards to colour. Most are quite drab though, with almost completely black bodies with orange/yellow heads and a few white and orange spots. A few have the red and white markings seen in some of mine and then even fewer still have the reverse black markings on solid orange background. Even the banding can be quite variable, some having solid strips, others completely random spots. It makes it a bit difficult to define the traits of a true 'goldfields', but once you have seen a few it becomes easier to pick. I will try and post a few pics of the different colours in the next couple of days when I finish my night shifts.

The colours do seem to be highly inheritable, which is why I'm so excited to see what comes out of my group in the next few years. The downside is that for the large number of people who have bought drab looking animals based on the fact that they are 'goldfields', they have very little chance of producing brightly coloured offspring.

Mark, there were 3 of them at the 2009 Daytona show. I believe they were sold to someone in Texas but I don't know where they are now.

Or you could just sell your entire collection to get a scale from one.

They actually sold for pretty cheap, I think about the same as the typical coastals. That was for a couple reasons though. As already mentioned, only one had any orange, and they were all likely pretty old with unknown histories.

I agree that they were great looking animals, but there is a good chance that they will be very difficult to breed. I hope the person who bought them (who does live in Texas), has luck with them, but I would be even more excited if he found a good match for the one true goldfields.

On topic, your skinks still look amazing ancanthurus. They are still my favorite skinks in the world. I wish you all the best for another great year.
