Update: Maxx is now officially 10 inches!

Postby Dakota » Tue Sep 24, 2013 8:26 pm

Well, as most of you guys know, I bought Maxx when going to my first reptile expo. He came to me with an extremely bad case of missing scales and swelling to the face. Who knows what caused it, but it is long gone, and behind both him AND I.

If I remember correctly, Maxx was about 5-6" when I got him; he was really, really tiny.. it was unreal! I had a thought in the back of my head that he wasn't going to make it, but he did!

He also came to me extremely skinny. His pelvis was showing tremendously.. it has wen't away 100% as of yet, but it is on it's way to not being visible. I feed him strictly dog-food now with calcium D3 added to every feeding.

Enough chat, here are some cute photos:

Here he is next to a tape measure:

Here is why I think he is a boy. Right now they are just like half the size of a BB, on each side of the cloaca, right below the cloaca.. looking for him a girlfriend! :D

Also, please note he just a few days away from shedding.. it is usually much more prettier! Also, for the ones that don't know, he is a Halmahera Blue-Tongued Skink. A locale of the Indonesian.

Thanks! I'm moving him back in tomorrow, since I don't want him to brumate any, so he will keep growing! :D He is starting to be a little less huffy too! :) I can't wait until he is full grown.

I have the same issue with all of my gigas. Not one of them will hold still long enough to measure. You don't have that problem with big fat Northerns

Generally I have the same problem, but Maxx just got done eating a TON of food, so he was weighed down. You can even see the calcium on my fingers.. haha.

And yes, I agree.. he looks awesome now. I'll post a photo when he sheds in a couple days.

On the regard of getting them to sit-still, I took Maxx outside on my screen-in patio, and he was running around as fast as he could like the little anoles/skinks outside, it was sooo cuuuuuuuuuute. <3 I love seeing him getting "wild".. hahahaha It is so funny seeing a tiny sausage lizard running around exploring every nook and cranny.

And regard of the kind comments, thanks.. he is true success. The best part of owning Tiliqua is raising the babies up. Such an honor to do so.
