All in all, I have a pretty good idea on the distribution of the Halm's better than I did before. Thanks to Richard mentioning something about it, and me asking around to people that have witnessed.

When you go to Indo visit the Phil
It aint that far away.
You misspelled Richards name wrong. Please dont jump on everyone else for misspelling your name if you are going to do the exact same.
NOONE IS SAYING THEY ARE THEIR OWN SUBSPECIES! THEY ARE NOT A SEPERATE SUBSPECIES. IF ANYTHING THEY ARE A PARTICULAR LOCALE OF THE T.G.GIGAS SPECIES/SUBSPECIES.

Re: Is there a good growth chart out there for BTS?
maybe start a thread on this subject dakota
also the people whom have witnessed what???
they according to you have said they are found off halmahera as well, but call the off halmahera ones gigas gigas of halmahera origins, thats at best laughable,no offence
my suggestion is start a thread on this subject as its not fair on ghetan or others to get this far off track in a thread not aimed at this topic

I will, Richard. I plan to gather some more facts from some more Indonesians and surrounding country people before I start another debate..

The caps have nothing to do with the misspelled name. I simply commented on that because you were so quick to call people out for misspelling your name and yet you did the exact same.
The caps were an attempt to get your attention. You seem to not understand that they are not a seperate subspecies even with everyone telling you.
If you wish to discuss this matter further, feel free to PM me.

Now I'm lost. What's a Panana?
And I just realised who Maya is.
Dakota, think of this in people terms. If you have a person, who's ancestors were from Halmahera and they were born and raised on Halmahera, yet moved to England in their 20's and that's where you found them, they would still be from Halmahera. But, if you found someone that looked just like them, but you found them in Papau with no memory, you would be hard pushed to say they came from Halmahera unless you could prove their ancestry.
Or in bluey terms, a shingleback found in Fremantle may look exactly like the Rottnest Island shingles, but in fact they are not- shinglebacks can not swim vast bodies of water and set up colonies elsewhere when they feel like a sea change, so they either are from Rottnest Island, or they are from the mainland, they just happen to look incredibly similar.
If you are labelling something as from a particular place, it has to be from that place, or you can't give it that label! Just because something looks very similar, does not mean they are from somewhere in particular. It's always better to know for a fact they are descended from actual Halmaheras, than assume something is true, just going by looks

Panana means Blue-Tongued Skink in Indonesian as a slang term.

Re: Is there a good growth chart out there for BTS?
It is said that a Merauke (..or Indonesian) and an Eastern came upon the same bridge that first connected Papua and Australia, doesn't it? (I honestly can't remember
) ..and they bred.. female went back to Papua.. and many generations down the road.. BOOM. Irian Jaya.. that was first collected in Irian Jaya. That was assumption, right?
How did the ferret become distributed over the world? Did they swim? Yes, they were used to kill mice on ships.. but that's beside the point. They were brought by boat. That could a possibility. There can be many of ways the original Halmahera Island Blue-Tongued Skink made it to the Papua Island.
How did all the animals on the Galapagos Islands get there? Swim?
Yes, the animals found there were evolved to fit their ecosystem than on the mainland of South America, but Halmahera Island and West Papua is virtually no difference. Same temperatures, humidity, seasons. There would be no reason to change.
Edit: Unless they started breeding with the other species.
I still have not found anyone that knows when they were first found, not exported.. found.. but I'm working on it.

All I'm saying is, I just find it extremely odd that they were first found on the island, and years later they were found roaming Papua.

Granted the Galapagos Island animals did eventual become a different species because of such a change, but as long as the skinks from Halmahera and Papua are still get blood mixed, from unknowns reasons it wouldn't become 2 different species. It would be 1, with a wide range.. named after where is was first collected.
