I am Gerald Tan, and yes I am a Filipino.
I just owned a blue tongue skink that was born in the first days of May and I got Bloo after 11 days.

This is Bloo.
He is going to be 4 months old this August and he is almost 13 inches long.

They are like the Merauke in every sense. They were first found in Merauke, but not limited to. Maya said that the Halmahera Island Blue-Tongued Skink was first discovered on the island, but soon after starting popping-up in Papua, what are the odds of them not being found on Papua first? It is likely that they were being let go in Papua, soon after making the pet-trade in Indonesia.

In a sense, we are all wrong. I was thinking they were only found on the island, and Richard was saying that all because it had the same characteristic of the ones being exported from the island, doesn't mean everyone you see on the forum is a Halmahera Island Blue-Tongued Skink. Indeed it is. Not all Meraukes are found in the city of Merauke, does this make them not Tiliqua gigas evanescens? No, they are still a Merauke Blue-Tongued Skink.. where they were first found. Same with the Irian Jaya. Giving them more specific names after the Indonesian was already established.

This is indeed a Halmahera Island Blue-Tongued Skink, but does not mean that is was collected on Halmahera. No way on knowing, unless you specifically had it exported from the island, or have documents saying so.

Such a relief to get the answer to that.

if its not from halmahera then its not a halmahera bts

meurakes are a sub species of gigas,halhamera are a gigas gigas,not a subspecies in itself but a very poorly named locale of a wide ranging gigas species ,poorly named as it doesnt reflect what all the gigas look like there and also reflects animals that are not found there,which u and maya are now saying arent just found on the island of halmahera

if they are found off halmahera they arent halmahera,s

so in essence you cant logically id one as halmahera of traits mentioned

Uhhh.. do you not clearly see a difference than a normal Indo than a Halmahera Indo?? Would your answer be the same IF they became a sub-species of the Indo, like the Merauke? The Merauke was described in 2000? Before 2000, were the Merauke found outside of Merauke Indonesians?

they arent a subspecies,they are gigas gigas ,and those traits are found on some halmaheras as well as some non halmaheras and those traits arent on all halmahera specimens

meaning its impossible to tell from looks if its truely a halmahera island bluey

even maya is saying that

no ifs buts or maybes,no could be possable escaped captives,those traits dont hold true for all halmahera blueys and tjose traits aslo cover non halmahera island blueys,so looking at the facts,taking away the here say and but wht ifs and maybes and meurake babble,there from southern indonesia,gigas gigas from the north,unless u have accurate collection locality data,which is as common as rockinghorse poop,theres no way to know if your indo is from halmahera or not

It is to my understanding that the book also states that it is best to house New Guinea Blue-Tongued Skinks together, correct? But this site is completely against it.
