so as i was running around the house i stopped by "dude" *i figured i'd name the Merauke something thats not to weird...but easy to remember and pronounce lol...Dude it was*

so i stopped by and gave him a pet n talked to him for a min...and it came to me....what if i was to stud him out!...

imagine a few more ppl a year could have cbb merauke's...mind you it wouldn't be to ppl who aren't on here...friends ok, breeders from shows...maybe..but ppl on here..ok sure why not...

assuming he's indeed a male..i'd love to make a little more $ that what i currently am...which is 0 since i'm a stay at home mom on the prowl for a job and going back to school hopefully in the near future..

so...granted he got a clean bill of health form the Vet....would there be any interest on here?...i'd work out the details of course with the person interested but i'd charge 600$s flat rate including me shipping him to you, you have him for what...1-2 weeks..long enough to have them together a few times to insure the deed was done, and i pay for his return, and i get 1 baby of the litter (if i wanted one)...of course thats a rough outline..but thats how i see it working out..since we're renting this place we live i can't be taking in a dozen or so kids of his every year lol...

Their are a myriad of issues with this.

The main one would be whether or not the male will breed after being shipped. It would be difficult to determine whos fault that is. Usually the window of opportunity is pretty short. Also, successful breedings do not translate to baby skinks. I actually did a breeding loan type thing with a friend of mine who lives close by(wouldn't normally, too many things can go wrong), and we got babies from 1 of the 2 females. Likely the other one we missed the window despite her getting 4 matings in.

I was thinking exactly the same thing

600 buys you at the least one of each sex to try for yourself

with breeding blueys,its best to cycle them the same,eg at one place,to make it easier to sync there cycles

breeding some species is tricky enough with out trying prs that are on different cycles

and if something bad happens ,animal lost,maimed ect then theres no end of issues to deal with

I think the only thing I would want from a breeding loan is the first choice of baby.. I just need to find some more females, and more people I would trust if I decided I wanted some more babies.

Dakota you have at least a female,maybe 2 and males,thats ample to try with,its actually easier with less animals in my eyes as you can devote a whole lot more time to fewer animals

adding more females may increase your odds but if conditions are spot on,only one female should be fine,meaning 100 females not cycled correctly with males isn't going to nessacarilly bring you success if that makes sense

with beginning to breed,even when you have some success,i prefer to get them going consistently long before adding numbers of them,if I was in your shoes for example,id be more concerned about adding an ij to pr up London for example rather than more meraukes,thats just me though

Oh yeah-- I see where you are coming from. These skinks aren't for the sole purpose of breeding.. if they don't breed, who cares?! I think just having the experience of breeding Meraukes, even though I haven't yet would be an awesome experience. And plus, Meraukes are one of my all time favorite species of Tiliqua, right beside the Halmaheran Indonesians.

--and I do plan to find a female for London, just looking for another with thin bands like him.

Sounds risky and totally unworth it IMO. I sure as heck wouldnt pay $600, but then I prefer to outright own anything I'm choosing to breed.
