Been trying to ID my BTS... finding it confusing. :-(

Postby Helzar » Sun Jun 23, 2013 2:04 pm

Here's my skink. Can anyone shed some light for me?

I've looked at as many pics and ID guides as I could and I come back with a different conclusion each time... the best possibles seem to be some of the newer examples of ones owned by you guys here.
:-)

Maybe a new Indo or new Merauke?

Thank you so much. :-)

I was thrown by the pictures... they seem to show more black/white colours and solid black legs.

Nice to know the locale.

Some of the photos on the identification page can be really misleading.. :|

Things to look for in Meraukes:
- One stripe down the neck
- Thin bands
- Red, Brown, to even Silver-ish back coloration
- Belly typically is red, with black splashes, but some don't have black splash. (Usually something monochromatic to red)
- Really long tail
- Black feet with white speckling
------------------------------------
There are exceptions to all the rules, and sometimes it is based on your judgment. But this is definitely a Merauke.

She is a beautiful skink and I agree that she is a Merauke! My Merauke has a solid colored belly though unlike yours. Where did you get her that you don't know what kind of bluey she is?
