Photo Gallery
Does anyone use and like the photo gallery? I'm looking into making some upgrades to the site and I'm wondering if spending money on this will be a waste.
I personally don't ever use it - I just add photos into the threads and search for old threads if I want to find past info. I find the text / context in the threads is much more valuable than just the photos in an album style. I don't want to spend money on it if it isn't something that will add value to the site, but if others really like it I'll gladly update it.
Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome!

I dont use it and don't see the benefit when you can post right into threads.

Ditto.
I spend enough time organizing my photos on photobucket, facebook and my website, I don't need another place for them!

Re: Photo Gallery
Thanks for feedback so far.
If anyone has concerns about photos being 'lost' from old threads - that was when the forum was under different management (it didn't happen during the update to the newer phpBB). If photos are uploaded to the site they shouldn't ever be lost unless the image is no longer available from the source (i.e. photobucket). I have it set up that we don't need to worry about photo storage or space, so hopefully that eliminates the need for a gallery. However, if people still think it would be a valuable addition to the forum I'll definitely look at updating it.
Please keep the comments coming!

Re: Photo Gallery
Threads are better...unless the gallery somehow gathered ALL photos from the threads into one place...that could be cool... Just saying...

My thoughts, also.
Almost like attaching a photo to a status on FB, and it shows up in "Timeline Photos", as well.

I don't and won't use it.
Perhaps a function that allows you to see all of the pictures you posted previously?

Re: Photo Gallery
I'm not likely to keep it updated. I think I may have added some photos in the beginning and honestly forgot about it. LIke others have said, I have way too many places for my pics as it is to want to organize them on a forum too. The ability to add them to threads is about as much photo stuff as I need

Re: Photo Gallery
I like the idea, but don't use it often. I don't post there as I know they are unlikely to get looked at.
The species gallery is good, with no comments, just a label for each skink to mark locale, if known. I think its both educational and helpful, just as a good reference of pictures and/or for study purposes.

Re: Photo Gallery
I really like having the pictures on the bottom of the profiles which are linked to the gallery? But otherwise I dont see any real need to improve it unless people started actively using it - Like how we have the enclosure section, its good for some quick idea gathering~

Re: Photo Gallery
I prefer to use the likes of photobucket or Flickr for hosting pictures, that way I can use the IMG code to embed the pics in threads on multiple forums without having to upload them on each site. Makes it easy to refer to or reuse an image for a particular thread.

Re: Photo Gallery
The downside is when the pictures are deleted or moved on the hosting site, eg. Photobucket etc.. , then all the threads that they are embedded in will become unviewble.
