rescued 13yr old northern

Postby SnakeCharmr728 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 7:14 pm

I run a tegu & monitor rescue but had a lady contact me about taking in her skink that she needed to rehome. She had her for 13years! Anyways, I just got her today and noticed that her right (left in the pic) eye is bulging out much more than the other and that she kind of has a hunch on her upper back to where she bends it to the left a bit, her tail has obviously signs of MBD with the kinks, cant expect a 13yr old skink to be perfect but I am concerned about her eye. Any ideas on what could be causing it? What do you guys think?

She is beautiful! The kinks are likely from a long time ago, likely from the womb.

As for the eye... I remember a member on here dealing with a very similar looking issue but I can't remember exactly who or find old threads. I'll see if I can do a search, hopefully someone else will remember this.

So I searched some previous posts, it seems that the pressure would effect both ideas, but my immediate thought was either pressure or brain tumor of some sort. I did send an email to my vet and am waiting to hear back

The bulging eye could possibly be a retrobulbar abscess. It would need a vet visit for correct diagnosis.

retrobulbar abscess is what we are thinking as well. She'll be paying the vet a visit this week.

Good luck with the vet visit.

Abscesses in some species (including reptiles) can be difficult to treat as the consistency of the pus is not fluid but rather more that of toothpaste. Also they can be encapsulated and require debridement to ensure complete removal of infection.

What a beautiful girl! I love her warm, rich colors! Also, I hope all is well with her eye and that it's not too big of an issue!

LouLou is a blue tongue skink newly acquired by North Bay Tegu & Monitor Rescue who has a painful abscess behind her eye which is making her eye protrude as well as a respiratory infection. The procedure she needs to drain the abscess and relieve the pressure was quoted to be $500. We are actively seeking donators for financial assistance to help get LouLou the surgery she needs.

Donations can be sent via paypal on www.northbaytegurescue.com
Even $5 helps!

Just locking this to prevent confusion with your other thread. I'll link it in, so others can still see the story behind her vet visit etc.
