It appears I'm getting a free skink this weekend!

Postby Spindown » Sat Jan 12, 2013 12:20 am

My friend has a friend who has become very ill over the past couple years, and that friend has decided that its best for the critters if she finds new homes for them. She tried to give my friend, who has 2 blueys, her young blue tongued skink for free as she knew she would give it a good home. However, my friend has been SWAMPED with animals dumped on her from others who arent as nearly grateful to her for helping them as they should be, and contacted me to see if I wanted it. She says she thinks its a Northern.

According to the owner, she raised it from a baby and its about a year old. Apparently he had a chuck of tail bitten off as a baby (I have no idea how severe) but it grew back pretty good. I have no idea what she feeds it, where she got it, but I dont think hes ever been to the vet...she says hes always been healthy (I'm going to do a fecal anyways) but he is living in a 20 gallon tank right now :( She really loves him and wants him to get a good home, and so since my friend trusts me enough to do a breeding loan with me, she will trust me with her boy.

I'm totally having to suck up to my man for this, because I agreed to foster a corn and a ball python (the agreement was for ONE of the two...) last week that we are getting early this week!! So its a lot all at once, but I'm glad I'm doing it. I love skinks and rescuing so...! :D

He's so patient with me :)

Sapphire, your man sounds like mine. That poor guy has the patience of a saint when it comes to me and my crazy animal rescues. He's come home many times to new random animals running around his house (pit bulls, terriers, a litter of kittens, a big fat Meruke, a Savannah Monitor) and he always just shakes his head and says "You can't keep it! It can stay till it finds a new home!".

You have a big heart, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes gets a little rescue-crazy ;)

So his conditions were actually pretty great, not nearly as bad as I expected. She fed him a pretty good diet, his nails are shore, he has all his toes, etc. He was in a 20, but she even admitted that he needed to upsize. I'll get length and weight tomorrow. Annnnd...as promised, Pics! He's GORGEOUS and a little darker than my guys. I just took a couple random pics, will have better ones soon :D
Does anyone have inital guess on gender? I know I need some better birdseyes, and a shot of head ratio to body...I'm personally almost leaning toward female, but I'm not an expert :D
