He's just exploring. Climbing the walls is normal, but can be a sign its too hot in the enclosure. What temps are you running at in your hot and cool ends?

What beautiful markings he has. If you arent too sure whether its male or female, could always pop up some birds eye view pics and see what peoples opinions are. Or even just for fun

There's another thread talking about the new tank the skink will be upgrading too. It needs some work first though.

Welcome! Gorgeous Eastern. It's great to see that you're open to new ideas and advice on how to best care for that beautiful bluey! Just because they are used to a diet and eat it doesn't always mean that it is the healthiest for them.
There are lots of ideas on here and in the FAQ section, hopefully you find some of it easier to understand than the caresheet!

Re: my new scaley friend
Your little guy is very pretty, hes got really nice markings.
Thank you SO MUCH for being willing to listen to our advice on changing the diet and substrate for your bluey. Blueys are like tanks, they *can* SURVIVE on crap food, but that doesnt mean that they should, or that they wont have som really horrifying results from it later. They are also SO silly and eat rocks
Really? you can feed slugs and snails, but you find scrambling or boiling eggs horrible? Lol, at least they dont require eggs
Eggs also make their poo smell really bad
I've skimmed through this thread, so sorry if this has been brought up already...have you done a fecal test on him yet? If the pet store was feeding him a diet like that, who knows if the poor boy could have parasites. Its always best to get that checked, and its usually very affordable. The treatments are also usually very affordable and easy too, if he does end up having them.

Re: my new scaley friend
I also wanted to say, please let your friends and family know, that although the thought of giving others surprise animals is widely considered to be a fun surprise...it causes tons of animal deaths, cases of neglect, animals going to shelters, and owners setting them free <TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE!> Its just not worth it unless the person getting the pet has been totally planning on that pet anyways, and has done tons of research. For example, I got a boa for a surprise Valentines day present last year, but I had already been talking to my friend about him, and I already knew all about his species and care. I also had the room, and the supplies, and a safe reliable food source.
Case in point, if you hadnt found this very patient, incredible forum, I'd shudder to think of what would have happened to Hagrid if all you had to go from was the pet stores advice...Not your fault for believing them at that point, but this kind of thing happens all the time and its so heartbreaking. Turns a well meaning gesture into something that nobody wanted to happen. My family knows I love all types of animals, but theoretically...if someone gave me a species I know NOTHING about, say a turtle or tortoise...I'd be totally overwhelmed, not have any idea of how to take care of it, and I probably wouldnt want it in the long run...and it would get rehomed.

About the whole, getting pets as gifts, i agree. my partner thought itd be nice to get me some new fish and so he put the pet store fish in my tank with other fish i bought from a good source. They were sick and i lost 2 of my favourite fishies because of it. He wont be doing that again though... Just an example

Re: my new scaley friend
The petstore lied again - They didnt even sell you a skink, its actually a ferret.
Naughty little buggers they are
And I definitely agree with you Sapphire - One of dads friends gave me a python a while back, it was so stressful because I didnt have a secure enclosure to keep him in, food, nothing, NOT EVEN A LICENSE TO KEEP SAID PYTHON
Illegal reptiles are not uncommon, but I wanted to be able to take him to the vet and such without the risk of having him taken away....
Gave him back pretty quick.

Re: my new scaley friend
You need licenses for pythons in the AU? How odd. I never would have guessed.
And actually, on that ferret thing, my roommate keeps making remarks that all my little skink is, is a hairless scaly ferret.

Re: my new scaley friend
Yeup~ There are a lot of rules and the like regarding the keeping of native animals - Its just way to easy to just walk outside and pick up a shingle or 5 and grab a python or two on the way back to your car. At least with fines and the like, it discourages many people, whilst giving people who wish to keep reptiles a way to do so legally and to be distinguished from people just snagging from the wild. Licenses are also required for animals like endangered birds.
Note that this is all WA Im referring to~ Some states have different regulations - Like there is one that allows the taking of no more than 2 of the same species from the wild by anyone who owns a license. I dont know if some species or restricted or excluded, but its an example.
