weight and length chart?

Just curious, has anyone, most likely a breeder perhaps, ever found/seen or even made a weight and length chart of blue tongues? I'd love to be able to compare my Tasmanian blotched skink's weight and length as he grows as this is the first baby blue tongue i've had, i've always had adults before now. might be far-fetched but worth a shot

It will be different for males and females,you will find huge ranges though,so even if you get an average,it can be a big gap either side of that average,thats with out age chucked in to

If u keep him warmed over winter and he doesnt sense outdoor conditions,they keep woofing food and can be of large adult size in 12 months,thats feeding them up and in good conditions,mine take years to get to large adult size,i sometimes brumate them because they pick up whats going on outside,so safer shutting them down,some ive left outdoors for the first winter and they have stayed there since,there tiny compared to ones a year younger that have been kept active

Most of mine take 4 to 5 years to start mating,i got a yearling female of a member on here and she was huge,got her right before brumation time outdoors so left her out,she had a litter of 4 after brumation,thats an example of different methods of keeping them and size potentials,that yearling female is bigger than all my other blotchies except the old vic alpine female,but theres not much difference,shes estimated to be at least in her early 20,s

The yearling female is a bluemountains form as well,which tend to be the largest forms of blotch,most of my others are vic alpines and vic lowlands and young bluemountains forms

So far the young blurmountains forms are out growing the same year class vic alpines,they started smaller to but caught up fast under identical conditions,they are all in same cage,be interesting to see how it continues

If he keeps weight on its a good sign hes doing well,when it warms up outside the indoor ones pick up there eating again so you should see a good growth spurt and they seem hungrier again

thanks for all that I dont let them brumate as they, including Crowley, are kept in our living room and we use the heater during winter so the room is kept around the 20 degree mark.
I got him at 42grams and length of 17cm long on the 27th of august, he is now 69grams and 21cm long today. so im thinking thats pretty good so far. Been told by a couple different herp vets to feed a lot of protein while so young so im doing that with supplements of course. also breeding snails for him. Keep the snail container right next to his tank, i think it teases him because its right next to his basking spot XD
He eats daily, usually the size amount of his head.

I appreciate all the information. I want to learn more, thinking about taking a course on reptiles as ive had them my entire life but not learnt anything specific like recognising the different region blue tongues or things like the question i asked here for instance. Also wanted to breed, but its very difficult down here. im not sure on the laws but i know you cannot sell them and you need a herp permit to own them and they are not very common pet down here unfortunately. and i have no clue about the whole breed and release deal. I do wish I could own other kinds of blue tongues but we can only have the Tasmanian blotchy

I thought in tassie u didnt need a licence to keep,pretty sure u can sell babies to,with in tassie,but laws may have changed,theres a few people who breed them down there,its odd every state in australia has different laws in regards to keeping

no, cant sell, have to give them away. And need a basic herp permit to have any reptile here now, the permit is simple and doesnt cost a cent though, pretty much just have to agree to the terms and jot down what reptile you have or intend on getting. It never use to be the case, i grew up with all kinds of skinks but not sure when, at some point changed it over the years

This might clear it up, i think it has been in place since 1995 but im not sure on that. but definitely cannot sell any reptiles and the blue tongue skink is included in the list of needing a permit. it is a very different way they do things here. I hope the people you know that are breeding them know that the laws have unfortunately changed. I think the permit is a good idea but being unable to sell them is unfortunate and you apparently cannot have more than 6 of any species on the permit list unless you have the scientific permit

Thats an odd system,one of the breeders was president of a herp society if memory serves me correctly

it is a weird system, but i spoke with the department of service tasmania that deals with all that and she confirmed what i said. no selling or buying of reptiles, all give away only.
