My BTS - what kind?

Postby Rainycat » Wed Sep 12, 2012 5:26 pm

So after having my guy for 9 mo..( was told he was 2yrs old) I realize from this site I have so much to learn and I thought I had done a ton of research when I rescued (kinda) him/her? but clearly not enough! but was mainly focused on food/housing/health/lites, as I was told he was an Eastern (not!) anyhoots I'm posting a pic cuz, he really doesn't match the diff breeds, maybe a mix? The pic posted his first day home in boring new tank, have since upgraded, and am hopefully going to upgrade to a 4ft x 2ft in Oct. Thanks for your input!

Lovely merauke. I'm sure he'll be grateful for the upgrade. He's quite a sizeable skink! The bigger, the better, so if you can go larger than that, I would. He will definitely make use of the space in a four by two and may even find it a little cramped. Usually prices don't hike too much with an extra foot or two, so shop around.

Thanks everyone!!! nice to know what my guy really is!! and thank you for the nice comments! I live in USA, Mass, there is a company (glasscages.co) that delivers large tanks, I'll have to drive an hour but worth it for the 4 x2 ft; from head to tip of tail, Mr Skink is 18 inches.(currently in a 36 x 18 x 17-- still waiting on the mouth culture, don't want to use the solution vet gave me, makes me nervous,,,, gonna call Angell Mem tomorrow, a little farther away and way more expensive but Im sure they have "real" reptile vet, I really dig my lil dinasour.. and want to do the best for him.. I may have a birds eye view pic .. will post. Funny thing is I have cats/dog/parrots.. that kinda person.. my daughter has a few reptiles the past 2 yrs.. water dragon and some diff geckos- and while I was supplying her with goods, I saw Mr Skink in the pet store.. eating nothing but cat food for 3 mos in a tank about 1ft x 1ft,, and everytime I went there was hoping someone bought him.... I think his size and uniqueness prob freaked people out; anyhoots, after much research as I am not a reptile kinda gal, and much heart breaking seeing him there for so long...I felt a connection and needed to get him and am soooooo glad I did, he has such an awesome personality and is very tame and responsive to you upon walking in the room and responsive to my voice; likes to hang out, (mainly burrows under my back while I watch TV!!), I take him outside in a sep enclosure for sun and he loves it.... I am hoping I am providing him with a happier place & he in turn has added many smiles to my life...
