Thats up to the individual,you,u can do it successfully with or with out it,for me i didnt see the point in forking over the money on something that doesnt seem like its needed,i dont think enough is known to say they need it,as theres plenty pushing 20 years in captivity with out any exposure and in great shape

Most day light brightness bulbs give off uva light,so i get mine from hardware store,same as most sold in reptile packaging minus the stupid price because it has a reptile on the packet

A thousand dollars is very high to be spending on setting up for a bluetongue,but easy if u buy from petshops i guess

Hardware stores dont sell reptile ones,just normal spotlights which the majority of the reptile ones are,at a fraction of the cost,bulbs can blow a any time,even on first use,hardware store ones you can buy more for the cost of just one reptile shop one so you have backups now if u have back up reptile store ones think of the cost,think how many extra sspare hardware store ones you could have,which in the majority of cases are the same light as petshop ones

Your paying 3 to 4 times more just because it has a reptile on the packet,some petshops even sell the exact same ones as hardware stores here,but at an extremely inflated price

That's what I do crm2000! I buy my basking bulbs at the hardware store. They are cheep and work just as well. I just had to buy a new bulb and I got a different wattage/brand on accident and it took me about a week to get the height right for the basking temperature. I use 1 florescent UV bulb, but I have a 75G tank. I should technically have two of them for that size tank. However, I try and get my skinks outside at least once a week but sometimes I will take them out more often. True sunlight is just better for them, I think! I do also use a infra red bulb. But I generally only use it at night!

I am a new BTS owner. I've only had my guys 2 months so, keep that in mind with the info I gave you. I'm still learning too!

Richard, a thousand isn't a lot to spend on a BTS when you got the $ to blow on the BTS lol.
You're very right about the UVB, though! It is definitely not a magic lamp lmao.

Just make sure that if you get a full spectrum bulb, don't try to use a dimmer with it and make sure it's directly vertical and not leaning one way or the other, as well as not having screening to block it.
