Pictures of Kiah eating a snail

Postby Lea » Tue Aug 28, 2012 11:23 pm

It's been a beautiful day and decided to feed a few snails. This one turned out to be a little tough in the shell, so after much shaking and head banging from Kiah, I decided I would have to intervene and break the shell for him or one of his head bangs was going to knock him out! The shell was then sucked off in less than a minute, but the slimy innards took some battling before he finally got a grip and was able to chew it all up. By the look on his face, I'm pretty sure he enjoyed it.

I love watching them eat snails, it's so gooey and satisfying! I've been waiting patiently for the snails to detox and the lizards to wake up a bit more, so this encounter was extra special! Kiah always makes sloppy dinner manners look extremely endearing!

There is something about pictures of Australian blueys in Australia that just make me happy! It doesn't really matter what they are doing, just the fact that it is in OZ makes it awesome! Thanks for the pictures!

You are welcome! I don't know what it is about them that makes me go all gooey inside, either! They'll be pleased to make you happy, Jeff!

Stupid question: Do you actually have to buy a specific kind of snails in store, or is it okay if I just pick some up in the woods?

I reckon this is an "öpinions" question.but I get mine from a bird sanctuary near my house and put them in a container for a few days just to be sure it is healthy and hasnt gotten to any poisons. Then give my skinks the snail :)

Does that count as feeding or exercise?

LOL, mine runs round all the time, pretty active for a bluey most days, I'd say it isnt counted as exercise because its the same as if we jumped on a treadmill for 2 mins then ate a handful of candy afterwards lol XD

I highly recommend Dubia Roaches! No noise, no smell, and they are healthier. Very simple to keep and great feeders, good source of calcium too.
In my experience, my Bluey for some reason never wanted to chase crickets, he would try to grab one....once...then give up. But he will run after roaches for a while and actually eat them.

If you are interested, here's a quick step by step video on setting up a cheap and easy enclosure as well as what to feed.

I'm honestly really not in the mood to bring cockroaches into my house. But I will watch the youtube video sceptically and see how I feel afterward...

oh wow, the idea of those roaches is so good, but im wondering if it'd creep me out lol. plus im finding it really hard to find anywhere that ships frozen pinky mice down here let alone live roaches. the only live food they sell in stores in Tasmania are crickets and meal worms, and I dont feed my skinks meal worms anymore.
