Weight loss tips
I just adopted a new girl and she is very over weight.I was told she was on a diet of only baby food and fed every other day.I have completly changed her diet and try to let her have time to roam each day.Does anyone have any other tips on skink weight loss?

Re: Weight loss tips
What kind of BTS is she? Basically, if you feed dog food with thawed frozen vegetables mixed in once a week, you should not have an over-weight skink. It might take a little while for her to lose the excess weight, but she will eventually if you stick to that diet.

Re: Weight loss tips
Feed weekly portions of healthy foods, try dog food for 'senior' dogs, and be very patient. They have slow metabolisms so don't expect quick results, it will take a long time! Good luck!

Once a week is fine. Also, with any weight loss in any animal, slow and steady is how you want to accomplish it. Quick, drastic weight loss is not healthy.

Re: Weight loss tips
Drastically altering the diet and eating regime could have some issues with her. In my experience slow changes to the diet are better i.e. reduce the number of feeds from every other day to every 3-4 days for a few weeks with smaller portions and maintain some of the foods to which she is accustomed, gradually advancing to 4-5 and 5-6 and so on. Totally new foods may confuse her initially as she will have developed preferences based on smell, taste, shape and colour. As ReptileKing said slow and easy is the best method.
