Introducing Gucci Mane

Postby Rhianimal » Wed May 09, 2012 8:39 am

Hello! I'm new here. :o

Recently I was given the opportunity to adopt 5-6 year old blue tongue skink named Gucci. He had not been given as much time or care as he deserved for a while. He is now being doted on and is looking very handsome! Quite a big one as well... probably 22 inches snout to tip.

And to better show his tail

I'm not sure what kind of BTS he is quite yet. He kind of looks like a Merauke. Whatever kind he is, he has a very gentle temperament and is quite a sweet lizard. I am happy to have the chance to give him a better home and get to experience the fun of skink ownership. :D

Still picking up the nuances of blue tongue skink ID but looks Indonesian to me (the more speckled looking back, the 3 neck lines, the black outlines on the head scales). Would be great if someone with more experience could explain why if they see it differently? Helps us newer to these guys to ID them.

Great looking skink at any rate

Thanks, everyone! At this time the skink is unsexed. The old owner says it's a male, but with how lacking the care has been, I'm not sure that it's accurate.

I think it's safe to say it's a type of T. gigas, whether it's Merauke or not. The tail is what has me thinking Merauke, but the inconsistent tail pattern seems more Indo.

Gorgeous Skink :D could it maybe be an integrade? Mine shows distinct traits of Merauke and Irian Jaya.

Thanks!

Gucci met his first strangers on Friday and he behaved very well.

I've also got his cage cleaned and redesigned. Have a look:

Image

PVC pipe tunnels on hot and cold, a huge basking rock, a more humid and medium-temperatured hiding box in the middle. I'll watch him for a while to see what he does and doesn't use and I'll adjust it as needed. He was sliding around the cage like a madlizard yesterday. Seems to really like the PVC tunneling!

Gucci has been very good this week! He ate his two meals with some real gusto. He has been really active as well; the PVC and big basking rock seem to be great to him.

WOW that is an awesome cage setup, I'm stealing your pic for a reference for how i want my cages to be :P
I'd have to say it looks like a wanna be Indo, but I'd say Merauke from the legs. Whatever he is, he is GORGEOUS wow!!
